Porter Fires Career Low Round as Penguins Place Second at Mercyhurst Laker Fall Invitational

North East, Pa. -- Redshirt junior Michael Porter fired a career-low round of 67 to finish second individually and lead the Youngstown State men's golf team to a runner-up finish in the Mercyhurst Laker Fall Invitational, which concluded on Monday from Lake View Country Club.

The Penguins finished second as a team with a three-round total of 882. On Sunday, YSU recorded a 297 in the opening round before carding a one-over-par 289 in the second session. Youngstown State concluded the tournament with a 296 in the third and final round on Monday.

Porter earned a career-best second place finish at even par with a three-round score of 216 (72-77-67). The redshirt junior's career-low, five-under-par 67 in the final round on Monday featured 11 pars, six birdies and one bogey. The McDonald, Ohio, native also turned in an even-par 72 in the opening round that included 10 pars and four birdies.

Jordan Kish matched the best finish of his career as he tied for third with a three-round total of 217 (73-70-74). The sophomore's two-under-par 70 in Sunday's second round featured eight pars and six birdies while his first-round 73 included nine pars and four birdies.

Nolan Shilling finished tied for 14th with a three-round score of 225 (76-72-77). The redshirt sophomore's even-par 72 in Sunday's second session featured six birdies. Playing as an individual, Ayden Richmond also finished tied for 14th with a three-round 225 (75-76-74). The redshirt junior recorded an eagle on the par-five No. 6 during Monday's final round.

Jake Ryan (76-75-75) and Josh Weiner (76-74-76) each finished tied for 17th with a three-round total of 226 while competing as individuals.

Ryan Sam finished tied for 22nd with a three-round score of 227 (76-73-78). The senior's one-over-par 73 in the second round included 11 pars and three birdies. Playing as an individual, Bryar Moss also finished tied for 22nd with a three-round 227 (76-77-74).

Rocco Turner finished tied for 27th with a three-round total of 229 (77-74-78). The sophomore's second-round 74 featured nine pars and four birdies.

New Haven claimed the tournament title with a three-round team score of 873. Youngstown State finished as the runner-up with an 882, Mercyhurst placed third with an 884 and Indiana University East placed fourth with an 888.

New Haven's Tommaso Rossin earned medalist honors by one stroke at one under par with a three-round total of 215 (73-69-73).

The Penguins will continue their fall schedule on Sept. 29-30 with the Virtues Intercollegiate at Virtues Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
