The Youngstown State men's golf team will continue its fall schedule on Sunday when it begins play in the two-day Mercyhurst Laker Fall Invitational at Lakeview Country Club in Erie, Pa.
The Penguins opened their 2025-26 season with a sixth-place finish in the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational at Guyan Golf & Country Club in Huntington, W. Va., on Sept. 8-9. YSU concluded the event at six under par with a three-round team total of 846, which ranks as the second-lowest 54-hole performance in program history. It is the lowest 54-hole team score for the Penguins since recording a school-record 835 at the IPFW Fall Classic in 2007-08.
Youngstown State opened its fall campaign with a 280 (-4) before carding a 278 (-6) in Monday's second session. The Guins closed the tournament with a final-round 288 (+4) to finish tied for sixth in the 15-team field. YSU's second-round 278 ranks as the fifth-lowest 18-hole performance in program history. It was the lowest single-round team score for the Penguins since posting a 276 at the Bucknell Invitational during the 2021-22 season.
Individually, Jordan Kish (69), Ayden Richmond (68), Nolan Shilling (67) and Rocco Turner (71) each posted the lowest single-round scores of their career. Additionally, Michael Porter (211), Kish (214), Richmond (216) and Turner (213) each recorded the lowest three-round scores of their career at YSU's season-opening tournament.
The tournament field at the Mercyhurst Laker Fall Invitational will feature eight other schools including Canisius, Chicago State, Indiana University East, Mercyhurst, Maryland Eastern Shore, New Haven, Saint Francis and UMass Amherst.
The teams are scheduled to play 36 holes on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday in the two-day, 54-hole event. Play is slated to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. each day.
Head Coach Tony Joy has announced that YSU's five-player lineup will feature Sam, Shilling, Turner, Kish and Porter. In addition, Bryar Moss, Richmond, Jake Ryan and Josh Weiner will be competing as individuals for the Penguins.
Moss, Ryan and Weiner will each be making their season debuts while Moss will also make his YSU debut after spending his freshman season at Tennessee State.
