Penguins Set to Take on St. John's Sunday Afternoon

Opening Kick
• The Youngstown State women's soccer team heads to the Big Apple to take on Big East foe St. John's, Sunday, Aug. 31.
• Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Cox Family Field at Belson Stadium in Queens, N.Y.
The Matchup
• This is the first meeting between Youngstown State and St. John's.

• Youngstown State has played against teams from the Big East five different times.
• The Penguins own a 1-4 all-time record against Big East teams.
• Youngstown State defeated Pitt, 1-0, on Sept. 15, 1996, for the program's lone victory.
• The Penguins are 1-1 vs. Pitt, 0-2 vs. West Virginia, and 0-1 against Xavier.
• The last time Youngstown State played a member of the Big East was on Sept.. 11, 2016 in a 1-0 loss to the Musketeers.
About St. John's
• St. John's enters the game with an overall record of 1-1 and is coming off a 1-0 win over St. Joe's on Aug. 24.

Naimoli Moving Up Lists
• Sophomore Maya Naimoli registered her first shutout of the season and her the fourth clean sheet of her career in the Penguins' win over St. Bonaventure.
• She now ranks tied for seventh with four career shutouts.
• Naimoli also ranks tied for fifth on the career wins list with six.
Getting to Three
• Against the Bonnies, Youngstown State scored three goals in a game for the first time since a 3-1 victory over Robert Morris on Oct. 30, 2024.
• It also marked the fourth time since the start of the 2023 campaign the Penguins scored at least three goals in game.
Newcomers Make Impact
• Newcomers have made a big impact for the Penguins early on in the 2025 campaign scoring 14 of the Penguins' 18 points.
• Junior Camille Bultel and freshman Baylee Williams lead the Penguins with five points on two goals and an assist each.
• Freshman Kamryn Rosa has three points on a goal and an assist, while freshman Leah Weiland has tallied an assist.
Naimoli Putting In Work
• In the first four games of the year, sophomore goalkeeper Maya Naimoli has been tested.
• She has faced a total of 94 shots and has tallied 26 saves, including a career-high 11 against No. 25 Texas Tech on Aug. 17.
Big Debut
• A pair of Youngstown State freshman scored their first career points in their first collegiate game against Indiana on Aug. 14.
• Freshman Baylee Williams notched her first career goal, and she was assisted by redshirt freshman Leah Weiland for her first career assist.
Top Scorers Return
• One of the top advantages for Youngstown State entering the season is the Penguins' top four scorers from the 2024 season return.
• Senior forwards Taylor Berry, and Chloe Weiland, and sophomore striker Sara Felder and senior defender Emma Rigone are all back for YSU.
• Berry, who ranks 10th all-time with 27 career points, led the Penguins with nine points after scoring a pair of goals and dishing out five assists.
• Her assists were the most in a season since Ernestina Abambila had eight in 2016.
•Weiland, who has scored seven goals in the last two seasons, posted three goals and added an assist for seven points.
• Felder, who was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, also scored three goals for the Penguins.
• Rigone, a defender, notched two goals and added two assists for six points.
Defend the Net
• Another important piece back for the Penguins is the return of sophomore Maya Naimoli in the net.
• Naimoli, a Horizon League All-Freshman Team selection, was a two-time Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week selection.
• She tallied five wins, three shutouts, 96 saves, 1.72 goals-against average, and a .756 save percentage during her rookie campaign.
More Scoring Threats
• The Penguins also return a few more scoring threats in 2025.
• Sophomore Teagan Wahle scored a goal and added an assist for three points, while junior defender Eva Sunjevaric and sophomore Kate Makkas were both credited with two assists.
