Women’s Soccer Opens First Preseason Camp Under Rich Wall

The Youngstown State women's soccer team battled through sweltering late-July temperatures to open preseason camp in preparation of the 2025 season.

The Penguins, who are under the direction of first-year Head Coach Rich Wall, spent two hours at Farmers National Bank Field progressing through tactical drills and fundamentals.

Youngstown State returns 16 letterwinners from last year's squad, and the Penguins added 14 newcomers for the upcoming campaign.

The Penguins' top four scorers from the 2024 season are back in seniors Taylor Berry, and Chloe Weiland, sophomore Sara Felder and senior Emma Rigone. Sophomore goalkeeper Maya Naimoli returns for her second season tending the net for the Penguins.

Berry, who ranks 10th all-time with 27 career points, led the Penguins with nine points after scoring a pair of goals and dishing out five assists. Her assists were the most in a season since Ernestina Abambila had eight in 2016.

Weiland, who has scored seven goals in the last two seasons, posted three goals and added an assist for seven points. Felder, who was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman Team, also scored three goals for the Penguins.

Rigone, a defender, notched two goals and added two assists for six points.

Naimoli, a Horizon League All-Freshman Team selection, tallied five wins, three shutouts, 96 saves, 1.72 goals-against average, and a .756 save percentage during her rookie campaign.

Sophomore Teagan Wahle scored a goal and added an assist for three points, while junior defender Eva Sunjevaric and sophomore Kate Makkas were both credited with two assists.

The 2025 senior class includes Berry, Weiland, Rigone, defender Mara Jaracz, forward Sophia Blankenship, and defender/forward Marissa Masano.

The returning letterwinners also include Emma Berdiner, Lenea Guerrero, Kailey O'Brien, Grace Nellas, and Makayla Thinger.

The 2025 newcomers include Aimee Benton, Rylee Sorrell, Leah Weiland, Natalia Rivera Lorenzo, Kamryn Rosa, Baylee Williams, Camille Bultel, Ghita Haouzi, Ava Paris, Gwen Schulman, Kendalyn Umbel, Madison Bazylewicz, Ava Yurko, and Nikki Whyte.

Youngstown State opens the 2025 campaign against Indiana, Thursday, Aug. 14. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. in Bloomington, Ind.
