Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Youngstown State women's tennis team cruised to a 4-0 win over Milwaukee in the semifinals of the Horizon League Championships on Saturday at the Varsity Tennis Center.
YSU will take on top-seeded Cleveland State in the Championship match on Sunday at 11 a.m. The match will be available on ESPN+.
The Penguins looked impressive against the Panthers winning the doubles point and three singles contests in straight sets.
In doubles, Julia Marko and Ghada Dirninger picked up a 6-1 win at No. 1, but the Panthers tied the match with a 6-2 win at No. 2. At No. 3, Lorena Cedeno and Lydia Foster picked up a 6-3 clinching victory.
The Penguins won all six first sets in singles play to take control.
The first to close out her opponent was Yoana Dudova at No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph. At No. 1, Marko claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win. The clinching point game as Dirninger closed out a 6-3, 6-4 decision at No. 5.
In the other matches, Cedeno was serving for match point leading 6-3, 5-4 at No. 4. At No. 2, Lili Minich held a 6-3, 3-2 lead and at No. 3, Yeseniia Ovcharova was in front 7-5, 4-0.
The win improves YSU to 13-7 on the campaign.
