Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla. – For the second straight round, the Youngstown State men's golf team carded a 309 at the Horizon League Championships hosted at the Mission Inn Resort's El Campeon Golf Course.
After two completed rounds, the Penguins own a team total of 618 which puts them in ninth place. YSU is eight shots clear of Purdue Fort Wayne and just six strokes back of sixth-place Green Bay.
The top three teams are tightly bunched with Wright State holding a three-shot lead over Cleveland State and IU Indy.
On Easter Sunday, Ryan Sam and Nolan Shilling had rounds of 76 while Jake Ryan had a 78, Michael Porter shot a 79 and Jordan Kish carded an 81.
Sam has a two-round score of 151 (75-76), Ryan is at 154 (76-78), Shilling owns a 157 (81-76) and Kish sits at 158 (77-81). Porter was added to the lineup on Sunday after not playing on Saturday.
Sam, who is in 14th place, was one-under par on the final nine holes with birdies at No. 10 and No. 16 to go along with six pars and a bogey. It was the second straight day he had a birdie at the par-5 10th.
Ryan, who is tied for 24th, shot an even par 37 on his final nine holes making all pars. He had a birdie two on the par-3 second hole.
Shilling, who is 34th, had a five-shot improvement from his first round. He was one stroke better on the front side and four better on the back nine. He was even par on his final 10 holes highlighted by a birdie at No. 10.
Kish, who sits in 36th place, caught fire on the back nine shooting a 35. Besides seven pars, he had a birdie two on the par-3 12th and three on the par-4 16.
Porter opened with a birdie on No. 1 and had 10 pars on his round.
