Cleveland, Ohio – The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Cleveland State on Wednesday evening at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
The loss drops the Penguins to 11-7 and 3-1 in the Horizon League while the Vikings improve to 7-11 and 4-0. The teams will close out the regular season against each other on April 19 in Youngstown.
In their first matchup tonight, the Guins won the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 1, Chester Wickwire and William Rassat won 6-3 while at No. 2, Ethan Dasset and Onder Balci won by a 6-2 score.
In singles, four contests went three sets and unfortunately all were won by the Vikings. YSU win in straight sets at No. 3 and No. 5.
At No. 3, Rassat picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory while at No. 5, Maihi Haita won 7-6 (6) and 7-6 (6).
At No. 1, Balci dropped a tough 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 decision. At No. 2, Dasset battled but fell 7-5, 5-7, 7-5. At No. 4, Matteo Ceradelli fought in a 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 contest. And at No. 6, Wickwire lost a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 bout.
YSU plays host to Chicago State on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
