Indianapolis, Ind. – The Youngstown State women's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over IU Indy today at the West Indy Racquet Club.
The Penguins improve to 10-7 overall and 3-1 in Horizon League play while IU Indy falls to 2-9 and 0-3.
In doubles play, YSU picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point. At No. 1, Julia Marko and Ghada Dirninger won 6-0 while at No. 3, Lorena Cedeno and Lydia Foster clinched the point with a 6-2 decision.
In singles, the Guins won five of the six matches in straight sets. At No. 1,Marko picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win for the 80th victory of her career. At No. 2, Lili Minich earned a 6-4, 7-6 decision. At No. 3, Yeseniia Ovcharova won by a score of 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. At No. 4, Cedeno earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory. At No. 5, Dirninger won 6-3, 6-1 and at No. 6, Yoana Dudova was a 6-1, 6-3 winner.
YSU concludes the weekend on Sunday with a 2:30 p.m. match at Northern Kentucky.
