Wexford, Pa. – The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 7-0 win over Duquesne on Saturday afternoon at the Oxford Athletic Club.
The Penguins (8-5) jumped on the Dukes (2-7) in doubles winning the two concluded matches. YSU then won all six singles contests, including five in straight sets, to claim the shutout.
In doubles, William Rassat and Chester Wickwire earned a 6-3 win at No. 1 while at No. 2, Onder Balci and Ethan Dasset were 6-1 winners. YSU led 5-4 at No. 3 when the point was clinched.
In singles, Balci cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 1. At No. 2, Dasset picked up a 6-4, 6-4 triumph. At No. 3, Rassat won in three sets by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 10-5. At No. 4, Matteo Ceradelli made his spring dual debut with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. At No. 5, Mihai Haita won 6-0, 6-2 and at No. 6, Viktor Van Craenenbroeck won 7-6 (4), 6-4.
The Guins open Horizon League play next weekend playing host to Northern Kentucky and IU Indy at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
