The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams swept the Under Armour #HLTF Weekly Field honors as Luke Laubacher was named the men's top athlete and Nia Williams-Matthews as named the women's top athlete.
Laubacher won the long jump with a leap of 7.78m at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational presented by Southwoods Health on Friday night. On his final attempt, he set a personal best and meet record with his leap. That mark ranks him 11th in the country in the event. He had three counted jumps of at least 7.60m during his six attempts.
Additionally, he ranks 23rd in the nation in the 60m hurdles.
Williams-Matthews extended her school record in the triple jump to win the event at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational presented by Southwoods Health. She also added a personal-best leap of 5.91m to finish second in the long jump.
She finished with a mark of 12.86m which came on her final attempt. She came into the meet extending the record to 12.49m last week. For the second straight week, her teammate, Esther Solarin set a would-be record, this time of 12.74m, only to have the record broken on the last attempt by Williams-Matthews.
The Penguins are sending a group of athletes to the Michigan Invitational on Saturday.
