Youngstown, Ohio — For her combined success on the volleyball court and in the classroom, Youngstown State's Abbie Householder was named the Horizon League Female Fall Scholar-Athlete of the Season, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Householder is the second Penguin across all sports to be named a Scholar-Athlete of the Season by the Horizon League, joining former cross country and track and field runner Morgan Cole (Fall 2022 and Winter 2023).
The Horizon League recognizes student-athletes at the conclusion of each of its three athletic seasons as the Scholar-Athlete of the Season. Honorees are selected based on a combination of athletic and academic achievement by the League's faculty athletics representatives. To be eligible for Scholar-Athlete of the Season consideration, a student-athlete must be a member of that sport's current-year all-academic team.
This caps a week full of honors for Householder, a native of Canfield, Ohio, who finished her YSU volleyball career in 2025. On Tuesday, she was announced as an Academic All-District selection and a finalist for Academic All-America honors by College Sports Communicators. On Wednesday, Householder became the second YSU volleyball player to be named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American.
In addition to being named an Honorable Mention All-American, Householder's list of accomplishments during her senior year include being voted the Horizon League Volleyball Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year and AVCA Honorable Mention All-Region. Academically, she was named to the Horizon League's All-Academic Team for the second straight season, and she was an Academic All-District pick for the third straight season.
