Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Guins Beat RMU To Set School Record for HL Wins; Earn Tourney Third Seed

The Youngstown State women's soccer team rode two first-half goals and another shut out performance by GK Maya Naimoli to defeat Robert Morris 2-0 on a rainy night at Farmers National Bank Field.

With the victory, YSU clinched the third seed in the upcoming Horizon League Championships and will host the No. 6 seed Oakland on Sunday at 1 pm at Farmers. Youngstown State will host a postseason HL Tournament game the first time since 2012, which was played across the street at Stambaugh Stadium.

The Penguins set a school record with six Horizon League victories and concluded the league slate with a 6-2-2 record. Overall, YSU is now 8-9-2 while Robert Morris wrapped up its campaign with a 4-9-4 overall record and a 2-5-3 mark in league play.

It didn't take YSU long to jump out in front. In the fifth minute, Camille Bultel was fouled just inside the RMU box and was awarded a penalty kick. Bultel easily knocked home her third goal of the season firing to the keepers left, as RMU's Emma Cameron guessed right.

At the 30-minute mark, some nifty passing down the sidelines helped set up the Guins' second goal. Sara Felder took a long pass from Kamryn Rosa and fired a shot past Cameron just inside the post for her eighth goal of the season.

YSU led 2-0 at halftime, before the Colonials turned up the offensive pressure early in the second half. RMU nearly cut the lead to one on shot by Ava Trethewey the deflected off the right post then the left post but stayed out of the goal. Another Trethewey opportunity was blocked by a Penguin in front of an open the net.

After the Guins regrouped they had two hard shots off the crossbar. Bultel rifled a pair of shots off the crossbar in the 63rd and the 74th minute.

Naimoli picked up her fifth shutout of the season and the eighth clean sheet of her career in the contest.

For the game, YSU had 22 shots while RMU attempted seven. The Penguins had eight shots on goal while RMU had three.
