Cincinnati, Ohio -- The Youngstown State men's golf team closed the fall portion of its 2025-26 season with a fourth-place team finish at the Xavier Invitational, which concluded on Tuesday from Maketewah Country Club.
The Penguins finished the two-day, 54-hole event with a three-round total of 888 (+48) to place fourth on the team leaderboard and post their third top five performance of the fall season. YSU opened the tournament with single-round team scores of 301 (+21) and 298 (+18) in the first two rounds, respectively, on Monday before recording a 289 (+9) in the third and final session on Tuesday.
Ryan Sam finished tied for 13th individually with a three-round score of 220 (75-71-74) to claim his second straight top 15 performance. The senior's one-over-par 71 in the second round on Monday featured 11 pars and four birdies as he fired a two-under-par 33 on the back nine.
Michael Porter finished tied for 23rd with a three-round total of 222 (76-75-71) to collect his third top 25 performance of the fall campaign. The redshirt junior's final-round 71 included nine pars and five birdies as he carded a two-under-par 33 on the front nine.
Jordan Kish finished tied for 26th with a three-round score of 223 (75-73-75). The sophomore's second-round 73 featured 11 pars and a pair of birdies.
Nolan Shilling concluded YSU's final fall tournament with a three-round total of 226 (75-79-72). The redshirt sophomore's final-round 72 included 10 pars and three birdies while his opening-round 75 featured an eagle on the par-five No. 7.
Rocco Turner finished one shot back of Shilling with a three-round score of 227 (76-79-72). The sophomore's final-round 72 included eight pars and four birdies.
Xavier claimed its home tournament title with a three-round team total of 854 (+14) while Tennessee Tech finished as the runner-up with an 868 (+28). St. John's was one shot better than YSU to place third with an 887 (+47) while IU Indy rounded out the top five with an 889 (+49).
Xavier's Cayse Morgan earned individual medalist honors at five under par for the event with a three-round score of 205 (69-68-68) while Tennessee Tech's Haden Maxwell was the runner-up with a 207 (73-65-69).
Youngstown State will now pause from competition until the spring portion of the 2025-26 season begins in February. YSU's complete spring schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.
