The Youngstown State women's tennis team used a solid performance in singles to beat Miami (Ohio) 6-1 on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins improved to 1-1 on the season while the RedHawks dropped their dual season opener.
YSU won all six singles contests after dropping a tough doubles decision.
At No. 1, Julia Marko battled for a 7-5, 0-6, 6-1 win for her second victory of the season. At No. 2, Lili Minich split her first two sets winning 6-5 and losing 7-6 (5) before taking charge in the third for a 6-1 win. At No. 3, Yeseniia Ovcharova earned a 7-5, 7-5 win. At No. 4, Lorena Cedeno had a 6-3, 6-2 triumph. Ghada Dirninger claimed a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5. And at No. 6, Yoana Dudova cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
In doubles, Dirninger and Marko picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, but the RedHawks won at No. 1 and No. 3 to earn the point.
The Guins return to action next weekend when they play three matches in Las Vegas starting on Friday. YSU will play Oral Roberts, Weber State and UNLV while out west.
