The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-3 decision to Marshall on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins won three singles matches against The Herd. It was the first match in the series since February 2007.
Winning singles contests for YSU were Lorena Cedeno, Yoana Dudova and Julia Marko.
At No. 1, Marko picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win, at No. 5, Cedeno claimed a 6-1, 6-3 win and at No. 6, Dudova picked up a 6-3, 6-4 triumph.
The Herd won the doubles point and picked up straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 4.
The deciding match was at No. 3 singles. Yeseniiia Ovcharova won her first set 6-4 and had four match points during the second set, but dropped a 7-6 (11-9) frame. In the third set, Marshall won 6-2 to earn the win.
The Penguins (0-1) return to action next Saturday against Miami (Ohio) at 10 a.m.
