Vestal, N.Y. - The Youngstown State lacrosse team dropped their final non-conference game of the season to Binghamton, 23-4.
YSU held the Bearcats to just six goals in the second half but couldn't overcome a 17-1 first-half deficit. The Penguins fall to 0-13 on the season while the Bearcats improve to 7-6.
Jade Shearer scored two goals in the second half, both off free-position attempts, for her second multi-goal game of the season. Aryn Lohrey found the back of the net for the second time of her career. Ally Garrett scored the other goal for the Penguins as she eclipsed the 20-goal mark on the year.
Paige Borkowski made nine saves while a trio of Penguins caused turnovers: Kayla Stecker, Callie Vaudry, and Mia Stahl. Genna Cooke led the Penguins with three draw controls.
The Penguins scored two in a row at the 8:17 mark of the final quarter when Lohrey took it to the goal unassisted. Shearer followed that up with her second score of the day at the 5:18 mark, making the score 21-4. Binghamton scored the final two goals to win by a 23-4 margin.
In the first half, Garrett scored the lone Penguin goal at the 7:22 mark of the first period to make the score 6-1. Binghamton then went on an 11-goal scoring run to take a 17-1 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, Shearer ended the Penguins' scoring drought at the 8:33 mark to make the score 19-2.
Binghamton collected 21 draw controls to Youngstown State's eight to limit the Penguins offensive possession. YSU was only able to get 12 shots off, eight on goal, while the Bearcats delivered a barrage of 40 shots with 32 on goal.
The Penguins will return to Mid-American Conference play on Saturday as they head to Moon Township, Pa. to take on Robert Morris. First draw at Joe Walton Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
