Youngstown, Ohio – The Youngstown State women's lacrosse program closed out the 2026 campaign on Saturday afternoon against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Penguins honored six seniors before the contest.
Claire Baenziger led YSU with two goals, while Molly Brooks and Sami Drew each scored once. Baenziger also had a team-high six draw controls.
Maya Griffin dished out the lone assist on the day for the Penguins.
Mackenzie Flannigan capped off her historic season as she totaled two ground balls and one caused turnover. She broke the career CT record at YSU, as she will graduate with 56 over the past two seasons with the Penguins.
Meghan McGrath finished her sophomore season on a high note, setting a season-high with four ground balls while tying her season-high with two caused turnovers.
Alyssa Edwards totaled five saves in 53 minutes in the cage.
The Eagles started off the game firing offensively, scoring the first six goals within the opening 10 minutes of action. Claire Baenziger got YSU on the board with 2:08 remaining in the first period as the Penguins took advantage of being a player-up. EMU led 6-1 through 15 minutes of action.
The Eagles picked up where they left off to begin the second quarter, netting the first three goals to extend their lead to 9-1 with 8:26 remaining in the first half. Baenziger scored YSU's lone goal of the second quarter with 7:05 remaining before EMU tacked on another goal with just under three minutes left, carrying a 10-2 lead into the locker room.
After an Eastern Michigan goal to begin the third quarter, Sami Drew got in on the scoring as she netted YSU's third goal of the day with 7:23 left, followed by two more EMU goals to induce a running clock heading into the final 15 minutes.
Molly Brooks scored her ninth goal of the season to begin the final quarter off a Maya Griffin feed, but EMU would score the final two goals of the contest, winning 16-4.
Both teams controlled 11 draws throughout the game, as YSU outshot EMU 29-28, but the Eagles saved 14 shots over 60 minutes of action.
