Raleigh, N.C. – The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field teams had a successful three days of competition at the NC State Raleigh Relays held at the Paul Derr Track Facility.
YSU's Esther Solarin set a school record in the triple jump while Hunter Christopher set a new school standard in the 5000m. Solarin won the event with an impressive leap of 12.97m. On Thursday night, Christopher ran a time of 13:53.13 in the 500m to eclipse the school record by six seconds.
Women's Highlights
In the Pole Vault Invitational, Melana Schumaker finished fourth with a mark of 3.95m to lead the Guins. Erin Bogard and Ainsley Hamsher each cleared the bar at 3.70m. In the pole vault, Kaitlyn Eger was third with a mark of 3.75m.
Solarin added a personal-best mark of 5.81m to finish ninth in the long jump.
In the 100m, Nia Grose posted at time of 12.16 seconds. In her YSU outdoor debut, Melody Harloff clocked a time of 59.27 seconds in the 400m. In the 5000m, Morgan Cole just missed a personal-best by a second with a time of 16:42.31.
In the discus, Molly Radcliffe had a 12th-place throw of 45.10m.
Men's Highlights
In the 110m hurdles, Luke Laubacher had a career-best time of 13.69 seconds to finish second overall in the race. He was the top collegiate finisher of the event. In the 400m hurdles. Harry Barton clocked a personal-best time of 51.35 seconds to finish third.
In the pole vault invitational, Dorian Chaigneau tied for second place with a mark of 5.10m. Blake Sifferlin placed seventh clearing 4.90m while Jack Vecellio was ninth at 4.80m. Lukas Lang cleared the bar at 4.75m in the pole vault.
In the shot put, Dominic Perry was seventh with a throw of 17.14m while Ryan Henry was 12th with toss of 16.54m. In the discus, Henry was also 12th with a heave of 48.36m.
In the long jump, Jakari Lomax placed eighth with an effort of 7.09m while Samuel Challis was 10th at 7.06m. Challis had a leap of 13.92m in the triple jump.
In the high jump, Lonnie Harper had a strong fifth-place performance clearing the bar at 2.05m. Connor Durig had an impressive effort in his outdoor debut also clearing 2.05m to finish seventh. Mason Stephens was 10th at 2.00m.
Barton clocked a personal-best time of 48.77 seconds in the 400m dash. In the 5000m, the Guins had solid performances all the way around.
In the 1500m, Sage Vavro ran a time of 3:51.79 to run the eighth-fastest time in school history. In the 5000m, Ryan Meadows ran a time of 14:10.56 while Owen Brady ran the fourth-best time in school history at 14:21.92 and Blaze Fichter ran the eighth-best time at 14:29.80.
In the 200m, Laubacher ran a personal-best time of 22.16 seconds. In the 4x100m relay, YSU placed ninth with a time of 41.26 seconds.
