The Youngstown State men's tennis team used a strong performance in singles play to defeat Duquesne 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Guins (6-6) dropped the doubles point, but regrouped to dominate in singles winning five matches in straight sets.
The first two victors in singles play were Harry Fouzas at No. 5 and Asier Pena Ibanez at No. 6. At No. 5, Fouzas cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win while Ibanez collected an impressive 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 6.
At No. 4 singles, Onder Balci picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win, Nathan Favier claimed a 6-3, 7-6 win at No. 2 and William Rassat won at No. 3 by a score of 7-6, 6-2.
In the lone three-set match of the dual, Duquesne earned a hard-fought 6-2, 3-6, 10-7 win at No. 1.
YSU opens Horizon League play on Friday against Cleveland State. First serve at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center is set for 6 p.m.
