The Youngstown State men's and women's track and field team concluded an impressive two days at the YSU Mid-Major Invitational presented by Southwoods Health on Saturday at WATTS.
For the men, winning events were Daimere Stephens-Stewart (200m), Connor Shingleton (Mile), Ryan Meadows (Elite Mile), Dorian Chiagneau (pole vault) and Dominic Perry (shot put).
For the women, event winners were Nia Williams-Matthews (triple jump), Madison Murry (60m hurdles), Kalli Knoble (high jump), Lauren Sheehan (shot put), Melody Harloff (400m) and the 4x400m relay.
In the triple jump, YSU went 1-2 as Williams-Matthews placed first with a leap of 12.20m while Ester Solarin was just behind at 12.14m. YSU was also 1-2 in the shot put as Sheehan won with a toss of 13.29m while Molly Radcliffe was third at 12.98m.
Murry took first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.65 seconds. In the 400m, Harloff posted a personal-best time of 57.43 seconds.
In the high jump, the Penguins had three of the top four finishers. Winning her first high jump as a Guin was Knoble who cleared 1.61m. Finishing third and fourth clearing 1.58m were Rachel Jeffries and Emily Bee.
YSU had three of the top five finishers in the 200m. Placing second was Murry (25.01 seconds), in third was Mone Knowles (25.10) and fifth was Cyncere Cunningham (25.59). In the 60m, Nia Grose was second clocking a 7.71 time while Cunningham was third at 7.73 seconds.
YSU capped off the meet by winning the 4x400m with a time of 4:00.57.
In the men's 200m, Stephens-Stewart won with a time of 21.72 seconds while Harry Barton was a close second at 21.77 seconds. In the 60m, Stephens-Stewart finished second clocking a time of 6.79 seconds. In the 60m hurldes, Micah Mitchell was fourth at 8.31 seconds.
In the elite mile, Meadows was paced by coach Eric Rupe and clocked a winning time of 4:11.00 in the elite section. In the mile, Shingleton took first place with an effort of 4:18.28. Also in the elite mile, Blaze Fichter placed fourth running a 4:15.55.
YSU went 1-2 in the men's shot put with Dominic Perry taking first with a top mark of 17.90m while Ryan Henry was second at 17.06m.
The Guins had three of the top four finishers in the pole vault. Chaigneau took first at 5.19m while Blake Sifferlin was third with the same height. Finishing fourth was Jack Vecellio at 4.99m.
In the 800m, Sage Vavro finished second with a time of 1:54.44 while Riley Jackson was third clocking a 1:55.80.
In the high jump, Lonnie Harper led the charge with a third-place mark of 2.00m. Three Guins cleared 1.97m – Mason Stephens, Zachary Webb and Connor Durig.
YSU capped off the meet with a second-place finish in the 4x400m relay. The Guins posted a time of 3:18.23 and lost by 0.06 seconds at the finish.
YSU returns to action next weekend as it will have representation at the Tyson Invitational hosted by Arkansas, the SPIRE Indoor Collegiate Games and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston U.
