The Youngstown State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Western Michigan on Friday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. The Penguins and Broncos battled for more than three hours with four singles contests going three sets.
The Penguins won the doubles point to take the early advantage in the contest. At No. 3 doubles, Lorena Cedeno and Julia Marko picked up a 6-3 win and at No. 2, Maria Oliveria and Eliska Masarikova clinched the point with a 6-4 win.
In singles, the Broncos won in straight sets at No. 1 and No. 3, but the other four contests would go three sets.
The Guins earned a win at No. 4 singles as Cedeno earned a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win. At No. 2 singles, Marko fought off three match points in a tough 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 defeat. In action at No. 6 singles, Yeseniia Ovcharova dropped a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 decision and at No. 5, Lili Minich lost a hard-fought 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 match.
YSU returns to action on Sunday when it visits Toledo. First serve against the Rockets is set for 1 p.m.
