The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up a 4-3 win over Xavier on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (4-5) won the doubles point and picked up three wins in singles to defeat Xavier for the first time since January 2006.
In doubles play, YSU took the point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2. At No. 1, Nishant Dabas and Onder Balci cruised to a 6-2 win. After Xavier earned a 7-5 win at No. 3, Nathan Favier and Harry Fouzas clinched the point at No. 2 with a 7-5 triumph.
In singles play, the Guins went on top 2-0 after Balci finished off a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4. The Musketeers claimed their first point of the match at No. 2 singles.
YSU went in front 3-1 when Harry Fouzas finished off a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles. Xavier pulled within 3-2 on a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1.
The Guins clinched the match at No. 4 singles as William Rassat rallied for a 6-7 (2), 6-2, 6-1 win.
In the final match of the contest, Xavier won in three sets.
YSU is off until March 6-8 when it plays three matches in Tennessee.
