The Youngstown State men's tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-2 match to Northern Illinois on Friday afternoon at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (3-5) won the doubles point while Onder Balci won his singles match in straight sets against the Huskies (7-2).
In doubles, YSU picked up a 6-4 win at No. 2 as Nathan Favier and Harry Fouzas teamed up for the first time this spring. After falling at No. 3, YSU's Balci and Nishant Dabas collected a 7-6 (2) victory giving the Guins a 1-0 lead.
The Penguins and Huskies traded straight set victories. Balci won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
Leading 2-1, the next four matches all went three sets.
Northern Illinois won in three sets at No. 1 and No. 3 singles and clinched it with a win at No. 2. The last match was stopped when the match was clinched.
The Guins face Xavier on Sunday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. First serve is set for 11 a.m.
