Setla Records 2,500th Career Dig as YSU Falls in Five at NKU

Highland Heights, Ky. -- Youngstown State fifth-year senior libero Nyia Setla became the second player in the country this season to reach 2,500 career digs on Saturday as the Penguins fell 3-2 at Northern Kentucky. The set scores at Regents Hall were 21-25, 25-7, 15-25, 25-17, 15-11.

Setla entered the day with 2,498 digs in her career, and she reached the milestone in the first set as the Penguins won 25-21. Setla had 2,229 digs in four seasons at Division II West Liberty, and she now has 276 as a Penguin. Alli Wiese, a fifth-year senior at Division II Nebraska-Kearney, is the only other player in the country across all divisions to reach 2,500 digs, which she accomplished on Friday evening.

After the Penguins took the opening set, NKU evened the match with a 25-7 win in the second. YSU responded by scoring the first seven points of the third set on its way to a 25-15 victory, but the Norse claimed the final two sets 25-17 and 15-11.

Abbie Householder led all players with 23 kills on 72 attempts, and she added 11 digs for her fifth consecutive double-double. Gabriela Machin reached double digits in kills again with 12, and Isabel Schaefbauer registered 39 assists to go along with 20 digs. Bianca Giglio had a team-high 20 digs, and Dayan Malave was part of seven of YSU's 13 blocks.

Ava Hoying led Northern Kentucky with 14 kills on a .314 attack percentage. The Norse hit .194 overall, which was bolstered by a .471 mark in the second and a .400 clip in the fifth. NKU had 16 kills without an error in the second set, and the Norse had 15 kills to account for all 15 of their points in the fifth set.

Youngstown State will play its next four matches in Zidian Family Arena at the Beeghly Center, starting with a contest at 6 p.m. on Friday against Wright State.
