Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to Wright State on Friday evening at Zidian Family Arena in the Beeghly Center. The set scores against the league-leading Raiders were 25-21, 25-16, 25-14.
Abbie Householder led the Penguins offensively with 10 kills, reaching double digits for the sixth straight match. Setter Isabel Schaefbauer had 16 assists and eight digs as YSU ran a 6-2 offense in the first two sets, and Kiyah Franklin posted eight kills.
Wright State had 17 kills from each of its left-side hitters, Sam Ott and Mya Ayro. Ott's 17 kills came in 34 attempts, and Ayro's came in 26 swings. The Raiders hit .318 as a team.
The Penguins had a 15-14 edge in kills in the opening set, which they led for most of the first half. Youngstown State held a 20-18 edge following a kill from Kelsey Cooper, but the Raiders scored seven of the next eight points to win 25-21.
After the first set, Wright State had a 35-16 advantage in the kills column. The Raiders built a 17-9 lead in the second set, and they had 19 kills in 33 swings in the third.
Youngstown State and Wright State will play again on Saturday at 2 p.m.
