Penguins Welcome Jags to Zidian Family Arena for Weekend Series

Youngstown, Ohio — Youngstown State's volleyball team will continue its four-match homestand this weekend with two contests against IU Indy. The Penguins and Jaguars will play at 5 p.m. on Friday at Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center, and they'll play again on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The start times for the two matches are an hour earlier than the traditional start times due to the YSU football game at 6 p.m. on Saturday. Football game parking prices and policies will be in effect on Saturday.

Recapping Recent Matches

Youngstown State fell twice to league-leading Wright State last weekend at Beeghly Center in a pair of 3-0 decisions. The Penguins were shorthanded at the middle blocker position, and the Raiders had the highest two attack percentages by an opponent this season.

Isabel Schaefabuer and Nyia Setla were honored before Saturday's match for reaching career milestones recently. Schaefbauer went over 2,000 career assists on Oct. 1, and Setla recorded her 2,500th career dig on Oct. 5.
Schaefbauer registered her 800th career dig in Saturday's match against the Raiders.
Bianca Giglio, who is listed on the roster as a defensive specialist and outside hitter, started both matches against the Raiders at middle blocker. The 5-foot-10 Giglio was forced into duty because of injuries to Dayan Malave and Julia Sell.
Abbie Householder extended her streak of matches with at least 10 kills to six last Friday before being held to eight on Saturday. She has had at least eight kills in every match this season except the opener. Householder went over 750 career kills in Friday's match against the Raiders.
Kiyah Franklin had 14 kills in the two matches last week, which was second behind only Householder's 18. Franklin's 14 kills came in 36 attempts, and the senior right-side hitter posted a .250 attack percentage.
Kelsey Cooper had a team-high six blocks in six sets last week.

Scouting IU Indy

IU Indy, formerly IUPUI, is 8-12 overall this season and picked up its first two Horizon League victories last weekend. The Jaguars beat Robert Morris 3-2 and 3-0 in the Jungle, and the Colonials did not score more than 16 points in a set in Saturday's contest.
Elle Patterson leads the Jaguars offensively with 2.88 kills per set, and Morgan Ostrowski is averaging 2.28 kills and a team-high 0.75 blocks per set. Ostrowski leads the Horizon League with a .375 attack percentage, and Grace Purichia is averaging a conference-best 0.52 aces per set.
As a team, IU Indy ranks in the top half of the conference in points, kills and assists per set, and the Jaguars are second with 1.91 aces per set.
