Volleyball Falls in Straight Sets to Wright State

Youngstown, Ohio — The Youngstown State volleyball team couldn't keep up offensively with Wright State as the Penguins fell 3-0 to the Raiders on Saturday. The set scores from Zidian Family Arena at Beeghly Center were 25-19, 25-13, 25-20.

Abbie Householder had a team-high eight kills for the Penguins, while Kiyah Franklin and Teagan Ng Both had six kills. Bianca Giglio added five kills in 10 attempts, and Ng had two of YSU's five aces.

Defensively, Nyia Setla finished with a team-high 12 digs, and Kelsey Cooper recorded four blocks.

Setla and setter Isabel Schaefbauer were recognized before the match for career milestones they reached in road matches last week. Schaefbauer notched her 2,000th career assist in YSU's match at Robert Morris on Oct. 1, and Setla registered her 2,500th career dig on Oct. 5 at Northern Kentucky.

Wright State had 51 kills in the three-setter and hit .361 for the match. Sam Ott led all players with 12 kills, while Mya Ayro and Haley Robinson both had 11. Ott also had four of the Raiders' eight aces.

The Penguins held a 15-13 lead in the opening set before the Raiders went on a 12-4 burst. They then pulled away behind Ott's serve in the second set as the fifth-year had four aces during a 6-0 run. Youngstown State was behind 15-14 after a Householder ace in the third set before the Raiders gained some cushion with a 6-2 run. YSU got no closer than three the rest of the way.

Youngstown State will continue its four-match homestand against Horizon League opponents next week with a pair of contests against IU-Indianapolis. The Penguins and Jaguars will play at 5 p.m. on Friday, and they'll play again at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
