The Youngstown State men's tennis team picked up an impressive 4-1 win over Butler on Friday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center. The over the Bulldogs was just the second in program history and first since 2012.
After dropping the doubles point, YSU (2-0) won four singles contests in straight sets vs. Butler (1-3).
In singles, Nathan Favier, Onder Balci, Nishant Dabas and Harry Fouzas were victorious to garner the Guins' four points.
The doubles point was won by Butler as the Bulldogs picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3. At No. 2, Balci and Dabas improved to 2-0 on the spring with a 6-2 win.
Fouzas was the first Penguin to get the Guins on the board with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Michael Karr. Balci was impressive in a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles. At No. 2, Favier closed out Borja Miralles by a score of 6-2, 6-3. The clincher was at No. 3 as Dabas held off Nicolas Arts for a 6-2, 6-4 win.
At No. 5, William Rassat was tied a set apiece while at No. 1, Clement Mainguy dropped his first set, but led 4-1 in the second before the match was called.
The Guins close out a three-match homestand to open the season against Georgetown on Sunday at 10 a.m.
