Youngstown State had a Horizon League best 167 student-athletes earn Horizon League academic honor roll distinction for the spring 2023 semester. A total of 1,264 student-athletes from all 11 member institutions and 19 Horizon League sponsored sports were represented.
YSU, which won the McCafferty Trophy as the league's top Athletics program, led the way with 167 student-athletes while Milwaukee was second with 159 and Oakland was third at 129. All 11 schools had more than 90 student-athletes earn Honor Roll distinction. The Penguins also led the way in the fall, with 167 student-athletes being recognized.
Candidates for the Honor Roll must meet three criteria in order to qualify:
1) Participation in at least one of the League's 19 sports during the most recent (or current) season.
2) Completion of three semesters (or four quarters, where applicable) as a full-time student at the same member institution.
3) A cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale).
With 181 student-athletes on the honor roll, Women's cross country/track & field had the highest representation of the League's sports. Women's soccer and men's cross country/track & field round out the top-three with 167 and 134 honorees, respectively.
