Youngstown State women's soccer Head Coach Brian Shrum announced Tuesday the promotion of Josh Green to Associate Head Coach and the addition of Assistant Coach Anita Maryskova to the Penguins staff.
Shrum also announced Assistant Coach Jason Gotcher will return for his second season in 2023.
"I couldn't be more thrilled to promote Josh to this position, as he is an integral, part of the success that we've had as a program over the last six years," Shrum said. "His tireless work ethic and recruiting along with defensive concepts have given us a chance to compete for Horizon League championship. I look forward for the years to come and the success of our program
Green's promotion comes after he mentored Brooklynn Kirkpatrick to the best goalkeeping season in program history. Kirkpatrick set the program's single-season records for wins (9), shutouts (8), goals-against average (1.00), and save percentage (.850). Kirkpatrick was also named the Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week three times and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Green, who is in his sixth season, guided a trio of goalkeepers who performed well during the 2021 season. Kirkpatrick, Mackenzie Simon and Zeeyana Jivraj each posted shutouts during the campaign. YSU allowed one-or-fewer goal in 12 games, including each of the final seven contests. YSU allowed more than one goal in just one Horizon League contest. Kirkpatrick led the team with two shutouts. YSU had an .811 save percentage finishing with 133 saves.
Last season, Gotcher helped the Penguins to the best season in program history with a 9-8-3 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in Horizon League play. Both win totals set the single-season mark of most wins in a season.
Maryskova brings several years of experience both as a top tier player and a coach. Prior to YSU, she was a soccer coach and scout for the Czech National Team Region North, and an assistant soccer coach for one of the top academies in the country. Two of her male players signed professional contracts with Fk Jablonec at the age of 17.
In 2021, Maryskova was an assistant coach at NJCAA DI Cochise College which was ranked in top 20 in the country in the spring of 2021 and won the region I title. At Cochise, she helped to develop a two-time All-American player Maria Azarias.
