The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team was defeated by Robert Morris, 14-8, in the Mid-American Conference Tournament Semifinals at the Joe Walton Stadium in Moon Township, Pa. on Thursday afternoon.
The Penguins finish the season with a 6-12 overall record and a 4-5 record against MAC opponents while the Colonials moves onto the MAC Championship with a 10-8 overall record and a 8-1 record in the MAC.
Abby Yesko led the Penguins with three goals, delivering her second hat trick of the season. Tristen Chang also had a multi-goal outing with two scores.
Ali Korin, Erin Clark, and Jordan Miller each scored a goal apiece while Clark, Miller, Korin, and Molly Sheridan added an assist in the contest.
Chang led all players with six draw controls while Clark grabbed three ground balls on the day. Skyler Weber caused a turnover in the matchup.
Mikaela Staranko delivered 13 saves on the day, eight of which came in the first half. Jacqueline Cornell delivered three saves in the fourth quarter.
Chelsea Coleman led RMU's scoring effort with four goals while Lilli Hadden added three.
The Penguins were off to a strong start, opening the game with two back-to-back goals by Korin and Clark. RMU returned the favor with two of their own to make the score 2-2 at the end of a defensive first quarter.
Sheridan then delivered a beautiful pass to Miller who fired it into the net on a player-down possession. Miller then made an assist of her own when Yesko found the back of the net to give the Penguins a two-point lead, 4-2, at the 7:31 mark of the second quarter.
The Colonials answered with a goal but then the Penguins continued their two-in-a-row streak when Chang scored on an assist from Clark before Yesko scored her second goal of the day to give YSU their largest lead of the game, 6-3, with 3:57 to play in the first half.
Within the final 40 seconds of the first half, RMU scored three goals to tie the game 6-6 at halftime.
Yesko would find the back of the net first to start the second half off when Korin delivered a beautiful assist. RMU scored eight straight to take a commanding 14-7 lead at the 6:59 mark of the fourth quarter.
Chang would score her second of the day with 4:47 remaining in the game to make the final score, 14-8.
