Chicago, Ill. – The Youngstown State men's tennis team remained undefeated in Horizon League action following a 4-3 win at Chicago State on Sunday afternoon.
With the win, YSU improves to 9-8 overall and 3-0 in league play while CSU drops to 2-16 on the season and 0-4 in the HL.
The Guins won an important doubles point to take an early 1-0 lead in the contest. At No. 1, Nathan Favier and Clement Mainguy won 6-1. In action at No. 2, Will Everett and David Alvarez Moreno claimed a 6-3 victory and at No. 3, Harry Fouzas and Laurentiu Mandocescu claimed a 6-1 triumph.
In singles, YSU picked up wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Of the six singles contests, four went three sets.
At No. 1, Laurentiu Mandocescu fought back to claim a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory. At No. 6, Moreno cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory. At No. 5 singles, Javi Gonazlez Pla dropped his first set 7-5 before rallying to take the next two sets, 6-4, 6-3.
Chicago State won three-set matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and won in straight sets at No. 4 singles.
The Penguins return to action on Thursday when they travel to Cleveland State. YSU will also host the Cougars on Friday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
