Mount Pleasant, Mich -Â The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 15-8 decision to Mid-American Conference leading Central Michigan at the Central Michigan Soccer/Lacrosse Complex on Wednesday.
The Penguins fall to 5-10 overall and 3-3 in MAC play while the Chippewas improve to 7-6 overall and 5-0 in conference play to remain undefeated in the MAC.
Ali Korin led the Penguins' scoring effort with four goals on the day. Jordan Miller, Abby Yesko, Jade Shearer, and Ally Garrett each found the back of the net once. Miller also made an assist in the contest.
Korin's hat trick of goals in today's contest marks her fourth in the Penguins' last six games.
Jacqueline Cornell entered the cage in the second quarter and made five saves while giving up nine goals. Cornell delivered a .357 save percentage as she recorded just over 40 minutes in the cage.
Molly Sheridan led the Penguins in caused turnovers with two while Sheridan and Skyler Weber each grabbed three ground balls.
Leading the Chippewas' scoring effort was Skye Deprado with four goals while Maggie Diebold scored three.
Central Michigan opened the game with two goals before YSU scored two of its own. Korin found the back of the net first for the Penguins before Miller tied the game, 2-2, at the 5:40 mark of the first with a score of her own.
The Chippewas proceeded to go on a 5-0 scoring run that lasted until the 5:59 mark of the second quarter before YSU scored two unanswered when Korin and Garrett each found the back of the net unassisted to cut the Central Michigan lead to three, 7-4.
Central Michigan scored once more before halftime to enter the second half with an 8-4 lead over the Penguins.
Shearer struck first in the second half with an assist by Miller at the 11:52 mark of the third quarter to make the score 8-5.
The Chippewas scored four unanswered before Korin delivered her hat trick goal with less than a minute remaining in the third. Central Michigan scored once more before the end of the quarter to take a 13-6 lead into the final period.
Korin opened the fourth quarter with her fourth goal of the game to cut CMU's lead to 13-7 at the 12:28 mark of the fourth. Following two CMU goals, Yesko delivered her tenth goal of the season with just over a minute remaining in the game to make the final score 15-8.
Youngstown State will host Detroit Mercy in their final regular season home game on Saturday. First draw is set for 1 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field as the Penguins celebrate senior day.
