Evanston, Ill. - The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team fell to No. 3 Northwestern on Sunday afternoon inside Ryan Fieldhouse, 24-3.
The Penguins fall to 1-5 on the season while the Wildcats improve to 5-1.
Jordan Miller, Natalie Calandra-Ryan, and freshman Dany Emler each scored goals for the Guins, this being the first for Emler. Molly Sheridan and Ali Korin each recorded an assist.
Calandra-Ryan led all players with five draw controls and two caused turnovers.
The Penguins held Northwestern to just two goals in the final quarter of play.
Redshirt-freshman Jacqueline Cornell came into the game midway through the first quarter and recorded nine saves while giving up 14 goals for a .391 save percentage in her collegiate debut.
Hailey Rhatigan led the Wildcats' scoring effort with five goals while Dylan Amonte netted four.
The Penguins scored their first goal at the 9:10 mark of the first quarter when Miller fired a Sheridan pass into the net for the score, Northwestern up 7-1. YSU entered halftime down 13-1.
Youngstown State found the score board once again when Calandra-Ryan recorded her 20th goal this season at the 4:27 mark of the third quarter, making the score 21-2.
The Guins scored their final goal of the game with 4:17 remaining in play when Emler scored her first goal in a Penguins' jersey off a Korin pass, before Northwestern scored their final goal of the day to win 24-3.
Youngstown State will return home for a matchup against Gardner-Webb on Tues., March 14. First draw against the Runnin' Bulldogs is set for 1 p.m. at Farmers National Bank Field.
