Indianapolis, Ind. – Youngstown State senior Justine Appolonia was named to the 2023 Horizon League Women's All-Academic Team, the league announced.
Elis Klein Spindola garnered Honorable Mention laurels.
Appolonia, who has appeared in all 16 matches with 15 starts this season, was a 2022 Academic All-Horizon League Honorable Mention pick. A mathematics major with a 4.0 grade-point average, Appolonia has been named to the Horizon League Honor Roll eight times. This season she has been credited with one assist.
Appolonia is the first Youngstown State played named to the all-academic team since 2020.
Klein Spindola carries a 4.0 grade-point average in business administration. She has a appeared in all 16 matches and made three starts, and has scored two goals with two assists for six total points. She scored the game-winner against Purdue Fort Wayne, and led YSU with five goals in 2022.
- To be eligible for Horizon League All-Academic consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits, and participate in 50 percent of the team's overall contests.
- An Honorable Mention is awarded to student-athletes who received at least 25 percent of votes, but did not make the All-Academic team.
