Moore Earns All-Tournament Team Honors as Bowling Qualifies Sixth at Northeast Classic

Deptford, N.J. – Behind an All-Tournament Team performance from junior Kirsten Moore, the Youngstown State bowling team won three matches and qualified sixth at the Northeast Classic on Saturday. Sacred Heart is hosting the 33-team tournament at Bowlero Deptford.
Moore totaled 1,093 pins in five games to finish ninth among the talented field of bowlers to be named to the All-Tournament Team Second Team. Her day was punctuated with a career-high 275 game in the final game of the afternoon. Moore threw 10 straight strikes during that 275 game, which is the second-highest total by a Penguin this season and the sixth-highest game in program history.
Youngstown State went 3-2 in its five traditional matches on Saturday to improve its record to 7-3 in the 10 qualifying matches. The Penguins will be seeded sixth in the championship bracket, which will be contested on Sunday.
"We did a solid job today navigating some challenging pairs and matches," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "While we had a few minor lulls in energy and execution, I thought we competed well throughout the day and especially stepped up the last two matches showing lots of heart and toughness. We're ready for a fun evening with friends and family and some solid rest. Tomorrow is a new day to elevate."
Youngstown State posted three scores of at least 1,070 on Friday in Baker play, but it couldn't match those high totals on Saturday. The Penguins were solid and consistent throughout the day with all five matches finishing between 958 and 1,007.
YSU topped Monmouth 1,077-888 to begin the day, and a 987-958 loss to No. 13 Delaware State followed. The Penguins then beat No. 14 Fairleigh Dickinson 1,006-911 and Bryant 967-874, and they dropped their final match to No. 10 Maryland Eastern Shore 1,019-1,007.
Moore topped 200 in four of her five games to finish ninth with her 1,093, and Megan Grams finished 27th with a 1,028 set. Grams threw eight straight strikes in a 267 game against Delaware State, and she was in the 200s in each of her first three games. Madyson Marx was the only other Penguins to bowl in all five games, and she finished 58th with a 971 set. Seven different bowlers started games for the Penguins, and Madison Doseck averaged 203.7 in her three games as a substitute.
Youngstown State will begin Sunday's bracket play at 8:25 a.m. against Maryville, which qualified fifth. Each of the three bracket matches will be a best-of-seven Baker format.
