Milwaukee, Wis. – Four Penguins scored in double figures but Milwaukee hit 12 3-pointers to defeat the Youngstown State men's basketball team, 88-75, on Saturday night at UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.
The Penguins fall to 15-6 overall and 7-3 in the Horizon League while the Panthers improve to 14-6 overall and 8-2 in the league.
Brandon Rush led the Penguins with 19 points while Malek Green recorded his fifth double-double of the year with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Dwayne Cohill had 16 points and seven rebounds while Adrian Nelson posted 13 point.
Milwaukee shot 10-for-19 from 3-point range in the first half and five different players connected on from distance.
The Panthers jumped out to a 12-6 lead before the Penguins went on a 10-2 run to take a 16-14 lead with 13:05 to go.
Youngstown State would increase its lead to 19-14 and after a 3-pointer by Rush at the 12:08 mark.
After a bucket by Malek Green gave the Penguins a 21-17 edge, Milwaukee went on a 13-2 run to take a 30-23 lead.
A basket by John Lovelace got the Penguins within six, 33-27, at the 6:09 mark but Milwaukee closed out the half on a 10-6 run, held YSU scoreless over the final 3:32 of the first half and led 43-33 at the half.
The Penguins host Oakland, Friday, Jan. 27. Tipoff is set for 9 p.m. at the Beeghly Center and the game will be broadcast on ESPN2 and 570 WKBN.
