Women's Lacrosse Falls to Central Michigan Second-Half Surge

The Youngstown State women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-11 decision to Mid-American Conference opponent Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins fall to 5-7 overall on the season, owning a 3-2 record in conference play, while the Chippewas improve to 6-6 and 4-1 in the league and take sole ownership of the MAC's second-place spot in the standings.
Ali Korin scored a team-high six goals on 10 shots during the contest, tallying her fifth game during the season with at least four goals scored and fourth consecutive. Korin added two draw controls and a lone ground ball during her afternoon performance.
Lauren Ottensmeyer and Natalie Calandra-Ryan also logged multi-goal outings for the Penguins, netting a pair of goals apiece. Calandra-Ryan tallied a team-high five draw controls in the game.
Fifth-year goalie Savannah Clark logged 11 saves across a 40-shot barrage by Central Michigan for a .426 save percentage.
Four Chippewas reached double-digit goals during the contest, led by Maggie Diebold's game-high seven goals scored on 11 total shots. Brennan Paddy netted five goals on nine shots, while tying for a game-high three assists.
Ottensmeyer scored the first goal of the game for either team, accepting a pass from Calandra-Ryan and firing it into the net to give the Penguins an early 1-0 lead at the 12:43 mark of the opening quarter.
Following a 3-0 scoring run by CMU that stretched to the 4:34 mark of the first, the Penguins went on to score the next five goals of the contest to take a 6-3 with 5:47 to play in the half. During the span, Korin and Calandra-Ryan each scored a pair of goals, split by Molly Sheridan's score that acted as the first goal of the second quarter at the 10:20 point.
The Penguins led by three-goal margins twice at 7-4 and 8-5 over the Chippewas prior to CMU stringing together a 3-0 scoring run to even the score at 8-all heading into the half.
Out of the break, CMU outscored YSU 5-1 in the third quarter and 7-2 in the fourth, dampening the Penguins offensive effort. Going back to the 2:17 point of the first half, the Chippewas ended the contest on a 12-3 scoring run to reach the team's 20-goal milestone.

Beginning a three-game road trip, the Penguins will face in-state conference-foe Akron on April 9 at InfoCision Stadium – Summa Field in Akron, Ohio.
In the first matchup between the two programs on March 3, Jordan Miller netted the game-winning goal 59 ticks into the first overtime period to clinch the program's first conference win on home turf in its two-year history, as well as its first victory over the Zips.
