Softball Earns Split at Scotsman Invitational

Clinton, S.C. -- The Youngstown State softball team has to settle for a split on day two of the 2022 Scotsman Invitational on Sunday.

The Penguins defeated St. Peter's, 4-3, before falling to Presbyterian, 4-0.

Senior Yazmine Romero went 3-for-4 while Megan Turner and Hailey Roach each collected two hits. Nikki Saibene drove in two runs while Alex DeLeon and Conchetta Rinaldi each had runs batted in.

Elle Buffenbarger picked up her seventh win of the season firing a complete game with six strikeouts.

After the Peacocks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, Rinaldi tied the game with a single up the middle to score Romero in the bottom of the third.

Saibene's two-out, two-run single to left field plated Romero and DeLeon in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 lead. DeLeon's single in the bottom of the sixth scored Roach and extended the Penguins lead to 4-1.

The Peacock's added two runs in the top of the seventh and left the bases loaded.

The Penguins collected just four hits in the loss to Presbyterian.

Youngstown State faces South Carolina, Tuesday, March 8, at 1 p.m. in Columbia, S.C.
