Men's Golf Concludes Play at Sea Palms Invitational

The Youngstown State men's golf team finished 16th at the Sea Palms Invitational, which concluded on Saturday at Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons Island, Ga.

The Penguins, who finished with a three-round team total of 908, improved in each round of the tournament. YSU opened the event with a 310 on Friday before posting scores of 301 and 297 over the final two rounds, respectively.

Bryan Kordupel finished tied for 31st with a three-round 222 (76-75-71) to lead the Penguins individually. The senior's first-round 76 featured nine pars and three birdies while his second-round 75 included 12 pars and a birdie on the par-five No. 4. Kordupel made par or better on each of his final six holes during the second session. The Boardman, Ohio, native carded 14 pars and two birdies during his even-par 71 in the final round. Kordupel made par or better on each of his first eight holes during the final session.

Kevin Scherr tied for 38th with a three-round score of 223 (74-75-74). The senior's first-round 74 featured 11 pars and three birdies as he made par or better on 12 of his final 13 holes. Scherr's second-round 75 included 10 pars and a pair of birdies while his final-round 74 featured 10 pars and three birdies. The Nazareth, Pa., native fired a three-under-par 32 that featured six pars and three birdies on the front nine during the final session.

Cole Christman finished tied for 60th with a three-round 228 (80-71-77). The junior's even-par 71 in the second round featured 12 pars and three birdies as he made par or better on 12 of his final 13 holes. The Boardman, Ohio, native fired a one-under-par 34 on the front nine during the second session. Christman's final-round 77 included nine pars and a pair of birdies while his opening-round 80 featured four birdies.

Zack Ford recorded a three-round 235 (80-80-75) while Ken Keller finished with a 247 (81-83-83). Playing as an individual, Dean Austalosh posted a three-round total of 240 (79-77-84). Ford's final-round 75 featured 12 pairs and a pair of birdies as he carded an even-par 35 on the front nine. Austalosh's second-round 77 included nine pars and two birdies.

Wright State won the tournament title by eight strokes over Radford with a three-round team total of 866 (287-305-274). The Raiders' 10-under-par 274 in the final round allowed them to move up three spots on the leaderboard and claim the tournament crown. Marshall, Oakland and Dayton rounded out the top five. Oakland's Thomas Giroux earned medalist honors by five strokes with a three-round score of 205 (67-68-70).

Youngstown State will continue its spring schedule on March 28-29 with the Butler Spring Invitational at Highland Golf & Country Club in Indianapolis, Ind.
