Bowling Adds Four More Wins on Saturday, Qualifies 11th at Music City Classic

The Youngstown State bowling team went 4-1 in head-to-head matches for the second consecutive day and moved up three spots in the team standings on Saturday at the Columbia 300 Music City Classic.

The Penguins averaged 197.9 collectively in their five traditional matches on Saturday, and three individuals averaged higher than 200. After two days of qualifying, Youngstown State will be seeded 11th in Sunday's bracket of best-of-seven Baker matches.

"I'm very proud of the effort today. We communicated well and stayed together throughout the day as we navigated some tough matches and transitions," said YSU head coach Doug Kuberski. "After a meeting to touch upon some of the things we learned today, we are going to enjoy the evening, rest up, and prepare ourselves for a strong Sunday."

Youngstown State's highest total came in its opening match of the day as it posted a 1,103 in a 112-pin victory over No. 21 Lewis. YSU's lone loss was a nine-pin loss in its next match to No. 23 Central Missouri, 1,040-1,031. The Penguins finished with three straight wins over Carroll (931-907), Emmanuel (860-831) and No. 24 Monmouth (1,022-850).

Emma Dockery was the Penguins' top scorer on Saturday with a 1,023 set that earned her a 34th-place finish. Emma Wrenn finished three pins behind Dockery in 36th place, and Jade Cote finished 45th with a 1,005 total. Each of those three Penguins topped 200 three times, and Wrenn hit at least 190 in all five of her games. Lyndsay Ennis delivered the highest game by YSU bowler with a 244 in the win over Lewis, and she finished 63rd with a 972 set.

Youngstown State will open bracket play against No. 22 Lincoln Memorial at 9:30 a.m. Eastern on Sunday. If the Penguins can beat the Railsplitters, they will take on either Louisiana Tech or Nebraska.
