Penguins Fall 1-0 on Walk-Off Home Run in Series Finale at New Orleans

Anthony Herron Jr. hit a walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning to give New Orleans a 1-0 victory over the Youngstown State baseball team in the series finale on Sunday at Maestri Field.

The Penguins fall to 5-10 overall on the season while the Privateers improve to 10-4. The two teams split this weekend's four-game series with each winning two games.

After Matt Brosky got Kasten Furr to foul out and Amani Larry to ground out in the bottom of the ninth, Herron Jr. hit the first pitch his at bat over the wall in left field to give the Privateers the one-run victory. All four games of this weekend's four-game series between YSU and New Orleans were decided by one run.

Brosky suffered the hard-luck loss after putting together another brilliant outing for the Penguins. The junior right-hander allowed one run on four hits and set new career highs with 10 strikeouts and 8.2 innings pitched without issuing a walk. The Strongsville, Ohio, native retired the first 16 batters he faced before allowing a one-out single in the sixth inning. Brosky recorded at least one strikeout in each of the first eight innings, and he had multiple punchouts in two different frames.

New Orleans starter Collin Horton matched Brosky with a brilliant pitching performance of his own. The sophomore right-hander allowed just one hit and had a career-high 16 strikeouts with five walks over 8.2 innings. Horton did not allow a hit until a two-out single in the top of the ninth inning. He faced the minimum in six different innings, and he struck out the side in four different frames. Horton had a strikeout in seven different innings, and he fanned multiple batters in five different frames.

Jack Williams was awarded the victory after taking over for Horton with two outs in the top of the ninth inning.

Braeden O'Shaughnessy recorded YSU's only hit of the game with a single in the ninth.

Herron Jr.'s walk-off home run was the only extra-base hit of the game. Pearce Howard, Jeissy De la Cruz and Andrew Guidry each added singles for the Privateers.

Youngstown State will play its first midweek contest of the season on Wednesday at Pitt. First pitch at Charles L. Cost Field in Pittsburgh is scheduled for 3 p.m.
