Women's Lacrosse Bests St. Bonaventure, Captures Program's Inaugural Home Victory

Competing in the program's first non-conference game, the Youngstown State women's lacrosse team opened the 2022 season with the program's inaugural home victory over St. Bonaventure on Friday afternoon at the Watson and Tressel Training Site, 18-7.
The YSU offensive attack was led by Lauren Ottensmeyer, who netted a game-high four goals on six shots. Seven other Penguins tallied multiple-goal outings during the contest, including Aryss Lindsey and Sydney Bumstead who scored a trio of goals, while Erin Clark, Jordan Miller, Natalie Calandra-Ryan and Ali Korin all found the back of the net twice.
Clark also added a career-best and game-high five assists to her two-goal performance to post seven total points.
Making her Penguin debut, grad-transfer goalkeeper Savannah Clarke logged a notable performance in the cage, posting a game-best 13 saves on 20 Bonnies' shots during a full 60-minute outing.
YSU capitalized on its free-position shots throughout the contest, going a perfect 5-of-5 from behind the 8-meter arch. Overall, the Penguins shot 47.4 percent (18-of-38), while holding the Bonnies to a 31 percent clip (7-of-22).
Following just a single goal scored during the opening 13 minutes of play, Ottensmeyer got the Penguins on the board with an unassisted goal at the 2:00 mark of the first period. YSU would take its first lead of the contest just 58 ticks later as Calandra-Ryan netted the first goal of her YSU career.
Just 24 seconds into the second period, Lindsey scored the first of her hat trick of goals on the afternoon, upping the YSU advantage to 3-1. Answering, the Bonnies ended nearly a 15-minute scoring draught at the 13:35 mark with a goal of their own, sparking a 4-1 run to take the lead 5-4 at the 9:48 point.
YSU would end the half on a 4-1 run of its own following goals by Korin, Clark, Lindsey and Lindsey and take an 8-6 advantage into the locker room.
Out of the break, the Penguins defense allowed just six total shots during the final 30 minutes of play, all of them coming in the third period. The Bonnies were able to capitalize once during that span with a goal the 9:38 mark but were held scoreless across the final 24 minutes. YSU ended the contest on an 8-0 scoring spree.
