Dayton, Ohio -- The No. 5 Youngstown State women's soccer team advanced to the Horizon League Championship semifinals for the first time in program history after knocking off No. 4 Wright State, 2-1, in the quarterfinals of the tournament at Alumni Field.
The Penguins improve to 8-7-3 overall and tied the school record for most wins in a season. Wright State finishes the season with an overall record of 8-7-3.
Freshman Taylor Berry scored a pair of goals to lead the Penguins offense while junior Brooklynn Kirkpatrick picked up her eighth win of the year and collected six saves.
The Penguins peppered the Wright State goalkeeper with nine shots in the first half, including six shots on goal. Berry gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead when she converted a penalty kick at the 34:19 mark of the first half.
She scored the eventual game-winner at the 85:54 mark of the game when she chipped a shot over goalkeeper who came out to play the ball.
The Raiders cut the lead in half with a penalty kick at the 86:28 mark of the game, but the Penguins were able to hold on for the victory.
Youngstown State plays No. 2 Purdue Fort Wayne in the Horizon League semifinals, Thursday, Nov. 3. Kickoff is set 5 p.m. ET in Milwaukee, Wis.
