The Youngstown State bowling team completed its competition at the PVAMU Invitational by finishing in eighth place amongst a talented field at the International Training and Research Center.
The Penguins began the day in sixth place in the team standings, and they dropped to eighth with a 982-925 loss to No. 3 Nebraska in a traditional match that completed qualifying. In the best-of-seven Baker format for bracket play, Youngstown State lost 4-0 to North Carolina A&T and 4-2 to Fairleigh Dickinson.
"With the head-to-head format, random variation is bound to happen. Unfortunately for us, the majority on the bad side happened this weekend. That'll even out," YSU head coach Doug Kuberski said. "We must also be better as a group on the little things that bond championship teams. I believe we are that type of team, and we have to use these next two weeks wisely to be our best selves moving forward. I love this group and can't wait to get to work this week."
YSU freshman Jade Cote finished sixth individually in total pinfall with a six-game total of 1,300, and she was four pins shy of making the all-tournament team. Fellow freshman Lyndsay Ennis was 14th in total pinfall at 1,251, and Kirsten Moore was 21st with 1,231. Each of those Penguins averaged higher than 205, and Cote's 216.67 average was the seventh-best ever at a tournament by a YSU bowler. Her 1,300 total pinfall was the second-best mark for a six-game tournament.
Youngstown State's next competition will be the Mid-Winter Invitational on Feb. 18-20 in Jonesboro, Ark.
