The Youngstown State track and field program is prepped to compete in a pair of two-day meets across the Jan. 28-29 weekend, including hosting the annual YSU Mid-Major Invitational.
Day one of the YSU Mid-Major Invitational is scheduled to get underway at 1:30 p.m. with the commencement of the women's pentathlon competition. Following a full Friday schedule, events are slated to resume at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday with a combination of field events and the ongoing men's heptathlon.
Anthony Woods and Jahniya Bowers will step into the blocks at the Rod McCravy Memorial Meet inside the Nutter Field House on the campus of the University of Kentucky. Preliminary heats of the 60m and 200m races will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, with semi-final heats going at Noon on Saturday. Qualifiers will race in the event final scheduled for 1:10 p.m. on Saturday. Following, Sean Peterson will compete in the first of three heats of the men's 800m run set for 2:10 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
A portion of the distance program was scheduled to compete at Boston University's John Thomas Terrier Classic, but have withdrawn due to forecasted inclement weather in the area. Everyone, excluding Peterson, who was scheduled to race has been entered into competition at the Mid-Major Invitational.

Last Time Out
For the second time during the 2021-22 indoor track and field season, Erin Bogard set a new Youngstown State program record during the YSU Collegiate Invitational on Jan. 21.
Bogard cleared a 4.11m bar on her third and final attempt at the height, overtaking her previous record of 4.05m set at the YSU Icebreaker on Dec. 3.
YSU accumulated seven event victories during the one-day meet at the WATTS (200m (m/w), 60m hurdles (w), 60m (w), high jump (w), long jump (m), shot put (m)).
Conference Honors
Anthony Woods was named Nike #HLTF Athlete of the Week for his performance at the YSU Collegiate Invitational. Woods tallied his third event win of the 2021-22 indoor season on as many meets with a time of 21.77 in the men's 200m. Woods' time acts as the league's second-fastest mark posted on the year and the fastest time of the season for YSU.
The award marks the second time during the 2021-22 indoor season Woods has received the conference honor. The first came after clocking a new YSU school record in the 60m dash at the YSU Collegiate Holiday Classic on Dec. 10.
Woods' recognition acts as the seventh time a YSU athlete has been pegged with the weekly honors across four weeks of competition.
USTFCCCA Regional Rankings
In the first USTFCCCA Great Lakes Regional Rankings of the 2021-22 season, the men's program comes in at No. 10 with 124.03 points, establishing itself as a top-3 team in the state of Ohio. Also being recognized for its strength, the women's team sits at No. 12 with 85.52 points.

The Penguins are on the road and back in action next weekend for a pair of meets scheduled for Feb. 4-5. Members of the program will compete at the Grand Valley State Snowdown Showdown, along with the Akron Invitational on Friday, then wrap-up the weekend slate on Saturday with day two of the Akron Invitational.
