Women's Soccer Ties Oakland, 1-1

The Youngstown State women's soccer team led for nearly 66 minutes, but had to settle for a 1-1 double overtime tie against Oakland on Thursday evening at Farmers National Bank Field.
The Penguins move to 0-6-2 overall and 0-0-1 in Horizon League play while the Golden Grizzlies move to 1-7-1 overall and 0-0-1 in league play.
Junior Abriana Rondin scored on a breakaway goal, her second of the year, at the 22:06 mark of the match to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
After a pretty evenly matched first half, the Golden Grizzlies applied pressure on the offensive end and outshot the Penguins, 10-4 in the second half. Their final shot on goal tied the match with just 1:59 left in regulation. Oakland obtained possession at midfield and quickly moved the ball down the left sideline. The Golden Grizzlies Kendra Zak found Alexa Sabbagh in the YSU box and Sabbagh shot found the lower right corner of the net.
The Golden Grizzlies outshot the Penguins, 23-9, and recorded eight shots on goal to YSU's two.
Junior goalkeeper Mackenzie Simon tied a career high with seven saves.
Youngstown State visits Wright State, Sunday, Sept, 19. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
