Box Score 2 The Youngstown State baseball team reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2010 with a doubleheader sweep of Oakland on Friday at Eastwood Field.
The Penguins earned a come-from-behind 4-3 walk-off win in game one before taking game two 12-6. Youngstown State, which has now won three straight games, improves to 20-17 overall and 15-11 in Horizon League play. Oakland falls to 9-20 overall and 3-15 in league action. The Penguins have reached 15 Horizon League wins for the second time in program history and the first time since 2006.

Turner Grau drove home Phillip Glasser on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Youngstown State baseball team a 4-3 walk-off victory over Oakland in game one of a doubleheader on Friday at Eastwood Field.
With the game tied 3-3, Glasser reached on an error to begin the bottom of the eighth inning. After Dominick Bucko walked, both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch. After Oakland's Brandon Deans struck out Blaze Glenn, Grau reached on a fielder's choice to first base that allowed Glasser to beat the throw at the plate to score the game-winning run.
The Penguins scored the final four runs of the contest after falling behind 3-0. Trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Grau hit a two-out, two-run home run to even the score at 3-3 and ultimately force extra innings in the seven-inning affair. Grau went 2-for-4 and drove in three of YSU's four runs. Jeff Wehler, Glasser, Glenn, Padraig O'Shaughnessy and Nick Caruso also had hits for the Penguins.
YSU starter Collin Floyd allowed three runs on five hits and struck out seven batters over seven innings in a no decision. The senior left-hander settled in to pitch six straight scoreless innings after giving up three runs on four hits in the top of the first. Floyd registered a strikeout in five different innings, and he had multiple punch outs in two different frames. He allowed just one hit over his final six innings on the mound. Joel Hake was awarded his first victory of the season after working a scoreless top of the eighth.
Oakland starter Bryce Konitzer surrendered three runs on six hits over six innings in a no decision. Deans suffered the loss after allowing one unearned run on one hit over 1.1 innings.
The Golden Grizzlies scored three runs on four hits in the top of the first inning to grab an early 3-0 lead. Jared Miller and Brenton Phillips hit back-to-back singles to begin the inning before Cam Post delivered an RBI single through the left side. After a groundout put runners at second and third, Michael Stygles drove in a run with a single to first base. Tyler Trovinger then brought home Oakland's third run with a sacrifice fly to left field.
YSU shaved Oakland's lead to 3-1 with one run on one hit in the bottom of the second inning. Glenn was hit by a pitch to begin the inning, and he advanced to third on a single by Grau. Two batters later, Steven D'Eusanio drove in Glenn with a sacrifice fly to center field.
The score remained 3-1 until the bottom of the sixth inning. Glasser reached with a leadoff single before Grau hit a two-out, two-run home run to right field to even the score at 3-3.
Stygles went 2-for-4 with an RBI to pace the Golden Grizzlies offensively.

The Youngstown State baseball team used a six-run fifth inning to pull away for a 12-6 victory over Oakland in game two of a doubleheader on Friday at Eastwood Field.
The Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning before the Golden Grizzlies tied the game with two runs of their own in the top of the second. YSU went back in front 3-2 with a run in the home half of the second before Oakland struck three times in the third to grab a 5-3 advantage. The Penguins evened the score at 5-5 in the bottom of the third before scoring six times in the fifth to move in front for good.
Bucko set a new career high with four hits in four at bats, and he drove in three runs. Wehler went 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored while matching his career high with four RBIs. Glasser and D'Eusiano each had two hits while Glenn and Padraig O'Shaughnessy each drove in a pair of runs.
Chad Coles did not allow a hit and matched his career high with seven strikeouts over three scoreless innings of relief to earn his first victory of the season. The senior right-hander fanned seven of the first eight batters he faced as he struck out the side in the fourth and fifth innings. Coles retired the side in order in the fourth and sixth innings.
YSU starter Colin Clark allowed five runs, four of them earned, on six hits over three innings of work. Conner Johnson surrendered one unearned run on one hit while striking out a pair in one inning of relief.

Wehler led off the inning with a solo home run down the right field line before Glasser hit a ground-rule double to right field. Bucko followed with an RBI triple to right center to give YSU a 2-0 lead.
The Golden Grizzlies responded immediately with two runs on three hits in the top of the second inning to even the score at 2-2. Lorenzo Elion led off the inning with a single before Stygles drove him home with an RBI double to right center. Later in the frame, Luke Malmanger delivered a two-out RBI single to left field that plated Stygles to tie the contest.
YSU went back in front 3-2 with one run on two hits in the bottom of the second inning. Lucas Nasonti drew a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a single by Glasser and scored on an RBI single from Bucko.
Oakland answered with three runs on three hits in the top of the third to take a 5-3 lead. Miller hit a leadoff single, Phillips walked and both runners advanced 90 feet on a sacrifice bunt by Post. Elion then delivered a two-run single through the left side that put the Golden Grizzlies in front. Oakland added its fifth run later in the inning on a two-out RBI single by Trovinger.
Youngstown State tied the game at 5-5 with two runs on three hits in the bottom of the third inning. Caruso reached on a fielder's choice and Lucas Nasonti singled to set up a two-run triple to right center by Wehler.
The Penguins scored six runs on six hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to regain an 11-5 advantage. Padraig O'Shaughnessy delivered a pinch-hit two-run single with the bases loaded to break a 5-5 tie before Bucko came through with an RBI single through the right side. Glenn followed with a two-run double to left center, and Grau notched an RBI double that plated Glenn for YSU's 11th run.
YSU plated its 12th and final run in the bottom of the sixth when D'Eusanio drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Wehler. Oakland got a pinch-hit RBI single from Drew Collins in the top of the seventh to produce the final margin of 12-6.
Oakland starter Travis Densmore allowed three runs on three hits over one inning while Justyn Schoening was charged with two runs on five hits over two innings. Hayden Nierman was saddled with the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits over 1.2 innings of relief.
Elion led Oakland offensively by going 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
