Box Score The Youngstown State women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against Cleveland State on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field on Senior Day.
With the draw, the Guins are now 2-9-5 overall and 2-3-4 in Horizon League play while the Vikings are 2-10-2 and 3-5-1. Both teams remain deadlocked in sixth place in the Horizon League standings with two games remaining. The 10 standings points for YSU tie the school record set back in 2014. The five overall ties eclipse the previous mark of four set in 2011 and 2018. The four ties in conference play are a new school mark.
Each team had an opportunity to earn the full three points with the victory, but standout goalkeeping kept the nets free of goals. It was YSU's third scoreless tie of the season, all of which were at home.
Senior Zeeyana Jivraj made a career-high 13 saves in the contest while Kyla Valaitis had three saves for Cleveland State. It was the second shut out of Jivraj's career. She was one of five seniors taking part in Senior Day prior to the contest. It was her first appearance in net since Sept. 5.
Regan LaVigna had a good scoring opportunity in the 31st minute turned aside by Valaitis. In the second half, senior Jordan Evans almost found the back of the net, but a diving save by Valaitis kept the game scoreless. With just under 10 minutes remaining, a header by Marcella Sizer off a cross hit the crossbar. Jivraj stepped up late making five saves in the final 15 minutes.
In the first overtime, each team had a shot on goal, but both keepers made solid saves. CSU had the only two shots on goal in the second overtime period.
YSU returns to action on Saturday when it visists IUPUI. Kickoff is set for 10 a.m.
