Dayton, Ohio -- Youngstown State senior Naz Bohannon became the 39th player in school history to reach 1,000 career points, but the Penguins dropped a 93-55 decision to Wright State on Saturday afternoon at the Nutter Center.
With the loss, the Penguins fall to 7-5 overall and 3-5 in Horizon League play. Wright State improves to 8-3 overall and 6-2 in league play.
Freshman Alex Vargo scored a career-high 16 points to lead the Penguins while freshman Myles Hunter added a career-best 13 points. Bohannon added seven points with seven rebounds and now has 1,003 career points.
Wright State placed six players in double figures led by Tanner Holden's 24 points and 10 rebounds.
The Penguins shot just 30.5 percent from the field while Wright State connected on 51.5 percent from the floor. The Raiders also made 10 3-pointers and outrebounced the Penguins, 51-29.
Wright State never trailed in the game and after YSU tied the game at 2-2, the Raiders scored 18 of the next 20 points to take a 20-4 lead at the 13:41 mark.
The Raiders never let up and shot 45 percent from the field in the first half, and converted 14 offensive rebounds into 16 second-chance points. The Penguins shot just 34.6 percent from the field in the first half. Wright State led the Penguins, 49-26, at halftime.
The Penguins visit Oakland, Jan. 15-16, in Rochester, Mich. Tipoff on Friday is set for 7 p.m. and Saturday's game time is slated for 3 p.m.
